The managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Mahama, has said currently state institutions in the country do not owe the power distributing company.
This comes after ECG embarked on a rigorous revenue mobilisation exercise across the country to retrieve over GHC5.7 billion debt owed the company.
Speaking with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday, Mahama said, “With the state institutions, I must confidently say that right now state institutions do not owe. The SOEs that owe their debt is not significant and this is stern from February and March bills that have not actually been sent out.
“But there is only one SOE that owes us a lot, which is Ghana Water Company Ltd. Water is life so it going to be difficult to disconnect them. They owe us about GHC500 million,” he added.

ECG is on a 30-day revenue mobilisation exercise as it pursues defaulting public and private customers including mining and manufacturing firms, who are the biggest debtors.
The power distributing company said it will sustain the exercise to retrieve the GHC5.7 billion on its books.
Earlier, Mahama served notice to defaulting customers and organisations that it will soon start naming and shaming defaulters to further its revenue mobilisation drive.
