Felix Appiah
The chief executive officer of Trisolace Ltd, Felix Appiah has advised the youth to venture into snail breeding in order to tap into the global snail value chain business worth US$2 billion.
Appiah who currently employs over twenty people at his company, conceived the idea of venturing into snail breeding with some colleagues after completing their national service.
Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (8 August), Appiah said “We started off with 50 snails.”

After tertiary and national service, together with my friends, we set up this company to do snail farming.
Start small
“After school in 2015, everyone wanted to do something so we did a study to see what business venture we could enter into, myself and together with some friends.”
“So we for instance say tart with zero, and build up, we dont encourage young people to go fancy and come to the GHC 30,000 level but you can just look around, you have a chop box, etc just put soil in there, put it in a dry place and start raising your snail,” Appiah said.
Value chain
While “snail meat” is regarded as a delicacy with great nutritional, medicinal, and cosmetic value in certain locations such as the Mediterranean region, Africa, or Southeast Asia, it is considered a taboo food in other cultures.
Research shows that snail meat is highly nutritious with high protein compared to other major sources of animal protein that were consumed in the country.
