The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified as Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng over allegations of romance scams, fraud and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that Kwarteng allegedly posed as a pastor who conducted online church services on Instagram, where he targeted women and claimed that God had revealed they were his future wives.
The Police said the suspect allegedly gained the confidence of some of the women by meeting their families and presenting them with promise rings.
He is also accused of obtaining intimate images from some victims and allegedly using the images to blackmail them for money.
The Police further alleged that Kwarteng introduced some victims to what was purported to be a car tyre business and collected thousands of dollars from them under the pretext of shipping and clearing containers of tyres.
After receiving the money, he allegedly became unreachable, according to investigators.
Investigations have also established that the suspect allegedly shared intimate images of some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is accused of threatening the victims.
The Police said seven victims have so far reported the matter, with investigations indicating that the alleged offences date back to 2021.
Kwarteng and Amoasah were subsequently arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court 1 on charges including conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences, defrauding by false pretences, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The court remanded Kwarteng into Police custody to reappear on August 6, 2026, while Amoasah was granted bail.
The Ghana Police Service said it continues to receive complaints from other possible victims and is encouraging anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspects to report to the nearest Police station.
The Police said such reports would assist ongoing investigations and help establish the full extent of the alleged offences.
