The Minerals Commission on Monday hosted a delegation from Malawi as part of a South-South Learning Exchange Programme on Mining and Mineral Sector Development, facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Malawi, in collaboration with UNDP Ghana and the Government of Malawi.
The delegation, led by Malawi’s Minister of Mining, Thoko Tembo, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, and the management of the Minerals Commission.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah briefed the delegation on Ghana’s mining sector governance and policy direction.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh, outlined the Commission’s core mandate as the sector regulator and highlighted its contribution to mineral development in Ghana.

In his presentation, Mr. Tandoh explained how the Commission’s regulatory oversight and framework had helped transform the small-scale mining sector, making it highly productive and, according to his presentation, enabling it to outperform the large-scale mining sector on which Ghana had relied for many years.
Malawi’s Minister of Mining commended the Minerals Commission for its role in mineral development and governance in Ghana and expressed his country’s willingness to learn from Ghana’s experience.

The visit underscores growing cooperation between Ghana and Malawi in leveraging mineral resources for sustainable national development.
