Ahantaman Girls’ Senior High School has won the Southern Zone of the 7th Energy Commission Renewable Energy Senior High School Challenge, beating Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, to emerge as the zonal winner.
The school secured the victory with its Royal Smart Fish Smoker, a solar-powered fish-smoking system designed to reduce carbon emissions and minimise the formation of carcinogenic compounds during fish processing.
The innovation seeks to provide a cleaner alternative to conventional fish-smoking methods, which can expose processors and consumers to harmful smoke and chemical compounds.
The competition, organised by the Energy Commission, provides a platform for senior high school students to develop and showcase renewable energy solutions to practical challenges.
Ahantaman Girls SHS’s performance places the school at the forefront of the Southern Zone contest, although details of the next stage of the competition were not provided.
