
An ambulance driver has been shot by some suspected highway robbers on the Somanya – Akuse Road on Thursday dawn, police in the Eastern Region have said.
Reports say the driver was conveying a pregnant woman in labour from the Akuse Government Hospital to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua when the incident occurred.
The driver, who was shot in the head is said to be in critical condition and has been referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for medical attention.
Asaase Radio’s Correspondent John Attafuah reports that the ambulance was said to have bumped into a robbery operation on the Akuse Somanya road while speeding thereby triggering the robbers to shoot the driver.
