S/R: Eight die in Wa-Sawla highway crash

At least eight people  have died in a gory lorry accident on the Wa-Sawla highway in the Savannah Region on Thursday.

Twenty others are also in critical condition after a Wa-Kumasi bound Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 3022-15 somersaulted and crashed into a nearby bush on the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

According to the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Police Command, the 23-seater Sprinter Benz Bus was from Wa in the Upper West Region heading towards Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, in the early hours of Thursday 18 March 2021 .

At about 11am, upon reaching the outskirts of the district, a chop box fell off from another another Sanyoung Mimi bus that overtook the Sprinter bus.

The Sprinter ran over the chop box, bursting one of its front tyres, forcing the vehicle off the road into the bush resulting to the crush.

The driver of the Sprinter bus, Mahama Sakara who is among the 22 injured passengers, reported the incident to the Sawla Police.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Sawla District Hospital while the 8 dead bodies have been sent back to the Wa Hospital Mortuary for identification and burial.

The victims are in critical condition and can’t speak to anyone even the police.
Meanwhile according to sources, the car that overtook the sprinter did not stop and nobody knows the registration number
