Leadership of the Obuasi Community Mining Association has reiterated calls for sustainable jobs to curb illegal mining in the area.
The youth group fears the inability to release lands for the government’s community mining programme could escalate current tensions in the town.
Their call follows an alleged brutality on some illegal miners on a concession of AngloGold Ashanti at Obuasi.
The viral video has been condemned by the Minority in parliament which has since called for a probe into the alleged assault.
Speaking with Asaase News, Convener of the Obuasi Community Mining Association, Francis Antoh wants the government to intervene as he confirms the continuous arrest of these suspects has sparked uneasy calm in the area.
