The Western Central Regional DOVVSU Command has arrested a woman, Elizabeth Acquah, also known as “Yaa Lizzy,” for allegedly publishing false information that generated fear and panic among the public.
According to the police, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on Monday, 17th November 2025, by 22-year-old Joseph Cann.
He reported that on 2nd November 2025, while travelling from Tarkwa to Bogoso with his girlfriend, 20-year-old student Felicia Ofori Atta, a misunderstanding arose between them. In an attempt to resolve the issue peacefully, he parked the vehicle at Yareyeya, a nearby community.
While they were addressing the matter, the suspect—who was attending a funeral in the area—approached and confronted Joseph Cann with allegations that he had kidnapped his girlfriend.
Police say she went further to assault the complainant and recorded videos of him, his girlfriend, and the vehicle.
The suspect later posted the videos on social media, falsely claiming that a child had been kidnapped. The content went viral, sparking public fear and panic.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against sharing unverified or misleading information, stressing that the publication of false news is a criminal offence punishable by law.
