A 24-year-old Ghanaian man identified as Joseph Owusu has reportedly been found dead at a dumpsite in the Bronx, New York, after being missing for about two weeks, according to reports circulating on November 3, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death remain unclear, with no confirmed official account establishing the cause of death or whether foul play was involved.
According to the reports, Owusu’s body was discovered among refuse by a scrap collector. Further details about when he went missing, the discovery of his body and any ongoing police investigation were not immediately available.
Owusu is being remembered by members of his community for his involvement in church activities and his kindness towards others. He reportedly served as an organist at the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx.
An online tribute described him as a caring young man who valued his family and friends, supported those around him and made a positive contribution to his church community.
His reported death has caused concern among Ghanaians in the Bronx, who are still mourning the recent killing of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong.
Frimpong was fatally shot on October 29, 2026, while reportedly walking to school in the Bronx. He had moved from Ghana to the United States about a year earlier to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong.
The teenager’s death prompted calls for justice and a thorough investigation. Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed the government’s condolences to the family and said Ghana would work with American authorities to pursue justice. Ghanaian officials in New York also visited the bereaved family, with the government pledging consular and appropriate legal assistance.
Although the two deaths have deepened grief within the Ghanaian community in New York, no evidence has been presented linking Owusu’s reported death to Frimpong’s killing.
