The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of involvement in a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs.
The suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, alias KC, 35, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation on October 31, 2026, according to a police statement issued on November 3.
The operation was conducted by an Inspector-General of Police’s Special Team comprising personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka were arrested at a hotel at Moshie Zongo in Kumasi. A search of their rooms led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles.
The police said the two suspects, during interrogation, admitted involvement in the robberies and named two alleged accomplices, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.
The suspects subsequently led the police team to another hotel at Dechemso, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu remains on the run, and the police have appealed to the public for credible information to assist in his arrest.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected syndicate monitored bank premises, identified customers who had withdrawn substantial sums of money and followed them before attacking and robbing them. The suspects are also alleged to have used a master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal cash.
According to the police, the three arrested suspects admitted robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the victim had withdrawn money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in Kumasi and its surrounding areas, the statement said.
The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police have urged anyone with credible information on Chinedu’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or call 191, 112 or the toll-free number 18555.
