The Accra West Region of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary halt in water production at the Weija Treatment Plant to enable urgent repairs on a severely damaged transmission pipeline.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, GWL disclosed that one of the major pipelines responsible for transporting treated water to western parts of Accra has developed significant perforations.
The utility company warned that the pipeline risks total failure if immediate repairs are not undertaken, prompting the planned shutdown.
The repair works are scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a 12-hour period during which several highly populated communities will experience water supply interruptions.
The affected areas include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, the North Industrial Area, and nearby communities.
GWL assured residents that water production will resume as soon as the repairs are completed. The company is urging households and businesses within the affected zones to store enough water ahead of the scheduled shutdown to minimize inconvenience.
