The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the unlawful invasion and forced closure of the Bekwai District Office of the Forestry Commission by individuals posing as operatives of National Security.
In a release posted on Monday, the Minister described the incident as “brazen and unlawful,” emphasizing that such acts of lawlessness pose a serious threat to national peace, institutional integrity, and the rule of law.
“I am deeply appalled by this incident and strongly condemn the invasion in no uncertain terms,” Buah stated. “Such acts… must not be allowed to fester.”
The details of the invasion remain sketchy, but preliminary reports indicate that the perpetrators stormed the Forestry Commission office earlier in the day, disrupting operations and claiming to be acting under the authority of the National Security Secretariat. The identities and motives of the intruders are yet to be confirmed.
The sector Minister has called on law enforcement agencies to take immediate action. “I call on all relevant law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute all those involved in the said illegality. This will serve as a strong deterrent to other unscrupulous persons who may harbour similar intentions,” he said.
The Ministry has also assured the public that it is working closely with the Forestry Commission and security agencies to restore order and protect public officials and institutions in the affected area.
This incident adds to a growing concern over the impersonation of state security operatives for unlawful activities, a trend that officials fear could undermine public trust in national security institutions.
