Atomic Energy Commission begins radon gas mapping

Gas flaring
The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) has started an exercise to map out various places across the country with high concentration of a naturally occurring dangerous gas to prevent people from becoming victims of its negative effects.

Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer, is colourless, odourless and naturally found in the atmosphere in small amounts.

However, it can occur in high concentrations in some areas, and where people reside in those areas, repeated exposure to it can lead to the contraction of lung cancer.
