A fresh dispute has erupted in Ghana’s mining sector as Azumah Resources Ghana Limited has strongly denied reports that Engineers & Planners (E&P) has completed the acquisition of Azumah and Upwest Resources Ghana, and taken control of the Black Volta and Sankofa gold projects.
In a statement, Azumah Resources described the reports as “false and without any legal basis,” stressing that it remains the lawful owner and operator of the projects. The company emphasised that no shares have been transferred to E&P by Azumah, Upwest, or their shareholders.
Prof. Prince Amponsah, Chairman of Azumah Ghana, accused E&P of attempting to mislead the public with what he called “false information designed to confuse.”
He noted that only last week, E&P had abandoned its legal claims against Azumah, which he said confirmed that the company is the rightful owner of the Black Volta and Sankofa projects.
Azumah has vowed to protect its assets and the interests of its shareholders, warning that if E&P proceeds with its claims, it would amount to an illegal seizure.
The company said it intends to file an application with the International Court of Arbitration to block any such action and to safeguard the investments and jobs tied to the projects.
“Our focus now is on moving rapidly into development and delivering over US$100 million of investment and thousands of jobs for the people of the Upper West Region,” Prof. Amponsah stated.
The clash marks the latest escalation in the long-running dispute between Azumah and E&P, raising fresh uncertainty over the future of the Black Volta and Sankofa gold projects.
