The management of SONABEL, the power utility company of Burkina Faso, has announced a rescheduled date for the controlled spillage of the Bagre Dam, moving it forward from August 27 to Monday, August 25, 2025.
The decision was prompted by a sudden rise in the dam’s water level, which has reached 90.24 percent of its filling capacity and stood at 234.27 meters as of August 23, 2025.
In a statement issued on 23 August, the Ghana’s Water Resources Commission cautioned communities along the White Volta and adjoining areas to take necessary precautions.
Residents were urged to strictly comply with safety guidelines issued by local assemblies and relevant agencies to minimize risks associated with the spillage.
