The Forestry Commission is collaborating with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and all commercial banks nationwide to plant trees across the country as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Ghana Cedi.
The initiative aligns with national efforts to tackle climate change, with sustainability highlighted as a core value of the Cedi@60 celebration.
The commemorative exercise will take place on 20 November 2025. The Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Johnson Asiama is expected to lead the programme by planting a tree at Bank Square in Accra to officially launch the nationwide activity.
Tree-planting events will be held simultaneously in several locations, including Cedi House in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Sunyani, Tamale, Sefwi Boako and Hohoe.
The target for the exercise is the planting of 1,500 trees across these participating centres, with each bank taking responsibility for planting 60 trees in recognition of the Cedi’s 60-year milestone.
The campaign, promoted under themes such as “Our Cedi, Our Heritage,” “Our Cedi, Our Identity,” and “Enhancing the Cedi’s Legacy,” seeks to link environmental protection with national pride and the symbolism of the local currency.
The Bank of Ghana says the initiative reflects a commitment to strengthening the legacy of the Cedi while contributing to climate resilience and sustainable development.
