Close down LGBT office now, Catholic church tells President Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference has called for the immediate closure of the Lesbians Gay Bisexual and Transgender LGBT office in Accra.

The Conference is also demanding President Akufo-Addo states government’s position on homosexuality and its practice in Ghana.

It further advised the executive and legislature not to yield to any pressure to legalize the rights of LGBT’s in the country.

A statement issued by the Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference and signed by its President Most Rev Philip Naameh says although it condemns the practice of homosexuality, LGBT’s must not be subjected to any harassment.

The European Union in Ghana on Wednesday commended Ghana for respecting the right of LGBT’s.

The union further pledged support for civil society groups that will promote the rights of homosexuals in the country.

The statement by the EU has since attracted some backlash from the public who have called for the closure of the newly opened LGBT office in Accra.
