John Jinapor
Energy Minister John Jinapor has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to step aside pending investigations into the fire incident at the Akosombo power control centre.
The directive, announced by Government Spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye in a Facebook post on Sunday, April 26, forms part of immediate steps taken following the disruption caused by the blaze last Thursday.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition is expected to provide further details at a major press briefing scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, where recent developments in the power sector will be addressed.
The announcement also comes amid reports of a leadership shake-up within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region.
The decision follows a fire outbreak at GRIDCo’s Akosombo substation in the Eastern Region on April 23 at approximately 2:01 p.m., which affected power generation and transmission, leading to outages in parts of the country.
