The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has declared Dr. Tanko Kwamegah Atokple, owner of SESI-EDEM Company Limited, a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into alleged financial crimes.
In a press release dated March 30, 2026, EOCO indicated that the action follows a series of developments linked to suspected money laundering and related offences involving the company.
According to the statement, in November 2025, JS Resources Ltd, in collaboration with Unigold Trading LLC, petitioned EOCO to investigate an alleged defrauding by False Pretence and Money Laundering reportedly perpetrated by SESI-EDEM Company Limited. The petitioners claimed to have suffered losses amounting to GH₵5,759,594.68.
EOCO disclosed that preliminary investigations established that the bank account of SESI-EDEM Company Limited held proceeds suspected to be linked to criminal activity. Consequently, the account was frozen on January 30, 2026, to preserve the funds while investigations continue.
The Office further noted that on February 2, 2026, the company secured a court review order to revoke the freezing of the account. However, EOCO explained that under Section 38 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), funds reasonably believed to be proceeds of crime may be preserved to prevent dissipation during ongoing investigations.
EOCO also revealed that a formal invitation was extended to Dr. Atokple to assist with investigations, but he has yet to honour the request. As a result, he is currently being sought by the Office to aid the investigative process.
Additionally, EOCO stated that directors of SESI-EDEM Company Limited have refused to comply with lawful requests to appear before investigators. The Office emphasized that it will employ all lawful means to locate, identify, and arrest the directors if necessary.
The statement clarified that SESI-EDEM Company Limited has not yet been formally charged before any court of competent jurisdiction, and the matter remains under investigation until such processes are initiated.
