Kwame Jantuah on GNPC Aker Energy deal
Kwame Jantuah, Chief Executive Officer of Africa Energy Consortium says the government risk losing power in the next election if it does not urgently solve the current power crisis.
Power consumers across the country have had to grapple with intermittent power cuts raising fears the country has returned to the era of power rationing popularly known as “dumsor”.
Despite the frustration, the Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh has attributed the current situation to ongoing maintenance works.
Speaking on The Forum, a current affairs and news analysis programme on Asaase Radio, the CEO of Africa Energy Consortium says government must fix the problem within the first two years to avoid losing in power.
“Nobody should take the people of Ghana for granted, although by the end of 2016 majority of dumsor was sorted, the people of Ghana took the NDC out because of the situation they went through,” he said.
Jantuah added “And this government, if they don’t solve dumsor by the mid of their reign, they will go out of power, because the people of Ghana have given you the mandate to serve us and to make sure whatever the people need is done.”
Realistic tarrif
The CEO of the Africa Energy Consortium wants government to desist from playing politics when it comes to tariff and think rather of the nation first than their re-elections.
He is calling for a national forum to help review the current tariff regime to ensure consumers pay realistic tarrif.
“We should look at the tarrif system, we should start telling Ghanaians this system will collapse if we don’t pay realistic tarrifs, subsidies today won’t help so we should look at the tarrif system,” he told the host of the Forum.
He added “And it is time for that discussion , and if that discussion is going to happen , it should be only in the caucus of the NPP, get all stakeholders round the table and let discuss it and make sure that whatever results comes from that discussion is permanent and can be continuous. ”
