The Forestry Commission (FC) has donated GHC100,000 to the Ga Mantse’s flagship Health, Environmental, and Sanitation Fund as part of efforts to strengthen its partnership with the Ga State and support community development.
The gesture formed part of a courtesy call by the Commission’s newly appointed Acting Chief Executive, Dr. Hugh C.A. Brown, who led a high-powered delegation to the Ga Mantse Palace to formally introduce himself to His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
In addition to the cheque, the FC delegation also presented bottles of schnapps and assorted drinks, in keeping with Ga tradition and custom. The donation, Dr. Brown explained, symbolises the Commission’s commitment to supporting social interventions that improve the wellbeing of the Ga people while promoting environmental stewardship.
Receiving the support, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II expressed his gratitude to the Commission and underscored the importance of institutions aligning with traditional authorities to drive development. He urged the FC to continue supporting the Palace’s foundations, noting that their endowments have far-reaching impacts in the areas of health, environment, and sanitation.
The ceremony also witnessed prayers by Numo Akwaa Mensa III, Chief Priest of the Ga State, who invoked blessings on Dr. Brown and his team as they assume leadership at the Commission.
The visit marked the first official engagement between the Forestry Commission and the Ga Traditional Council since Dr. Brown’s appointment as Acting CEO. He reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to working with traditional leaders across the country to enhance forest management, environmental protection, and sustainable natural resource governance.
