The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Council has paid a courtesy visit to its Chancellor, former President John Agyekum Kufuor — affectionately celebrated as the Father of UMaT.
As part of tradition, the Chancellor annually hosts members of the Council at his residence, creating a warm atmosphere for dialogue on the University’s progress, vision, and strategic direction.
The meeting also provides a moment of reflection and fellowship, reinforcing the strong bond between leadership and the institution’s founding legacy.
This year’s engagement was marked by an inspiring message from Kufuor, who charged the Council to work with determination to make UMaT the “MIT of Africa.”
He emphasized that with innovation, vision, and perseverance, the University could rise to become a premier hub for science, technology, and mining research on the continent.

On behalf of the Council, Prof. Goski Alabi, Chairperson of the UMaT Council, expressed deep appreciation for the former President’s guidance and pledged the Council’s commitment to realizing his vision.
“We are determined to make UMaT a globally recognized institution of excellence,” she affirmed.
The Council also extended heartfelt gratitude to former president Kufuor for his leadership and continued mentorship, acknowledging his instrumental role in positioning UMaT as a leading university for mining education and technological advancement in Africa.
