The Ghana Navy has arrested ten stowaways on board a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, MV Grand Venus, on Friday, October 31, 2025, following a distress call received about eight nautical miles southeast of Tema.
According to an official statement, preliminary investigations revealed that all ten individuals, identified as Nigerian nationals, had sneaked onto the vessel while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria.
The group was discovered during the ship’s voyage toward Ghanaian waters.
The Navy swiftly responded to the distress alert, intercepting the vessel and ensuring the safety of both the crew and the stowaways.
The MV Grand Venus was subsequently escorted to the Tema Harbour, where the suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities, including the Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police, for further investigation and processing.
The Ghana Navy emphasized its commitment to maintaining maritime security and preventing illegal activities within Ghana’s territorial waters. It also assured the public that additional details will be communicated as investigations continue.
