Ing Fred Attakumah
The Ghana Chamber of Mines has sworn in Ing Fred Attakumah, First Vice President of the Chamber, as its new President at the Chamber’s 98th Annual General Meeting held in Accra on Friday.
Mr. Attakumah succeeds Michael Edem Akafia of Gold Fields Ghana, whose tenure as President has come to an end.
A mining executive with more than three decades of experience, Mr. Attakumah brings extensive expertise in mine project development, operations management, sustainability and corporate affairs to the role.
He currently serves as an executive of Asante Gold Corporation and was previously Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited.
He has also held several senior leadership positions, including Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited and Vice President of Sustainability for AngloGold Ashanti’s operations in Ghana.
Mr. Attakumah holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Master of Business Administration from the Henley Business School in the United Kingdom.
His appointment comes at a time when Ghana’s mining industry is navigating key issues including mineral production growth, regulatory reforms, investment promotion and sustainable mining practices.
