A military helicopter is feared to have crashed near Adansi Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the helicopter, reportedly en route from Accra to Obuasi, struck a tree and was engulfed in flames. The aircraft was said to be operating its regular Wednesday route when it allegedly went down under unclear circumstances.
Local Assembly Member, Matthew Baah, told Adom FM’s Kasiebo Is Tasty that he was informed of the incident while working on his farm and quickly made his way to the reported crash site.
Emergency response teams have since been deployed to the area, but details remain scant as authorities work to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed in an official statement that one of its helicopters, a Z9 aircraft, has gone off the radar after taking off from Accra at 0912hrs on Wednesday. The aircraft, which was heading to Obuasi, had three crew members and five passengers on board.
“All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement, signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, noted.
“Further details will be communicated soon.”
It remains unclear whether the crash reported by residents is linked to the missing military helicopter, but investigations are underway.
