The Minerals Commission has begun collecting data on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by mining companies in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality to assess their impact on host communities.
The exercise involves gathering information on CSR projects implemented by mining companies operating in the municipality and their effects on Tarkwa and surrounding communities.
The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Cobbinah, disclosed the exercise in a statement following a meeting with officials of the Minerals Commission at the Municipal Assembly.
Mr Cobbinah said the data collection was aimed at assessing the impact of CSR interventions undertaken by mining companies in the municipality.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that communities in mining areas benefit directly from the natural resources extracted from their localities, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s position.
The exercise is expected to provide information on the CSR initiatives undertaken by mining companies and their contributions to communities within the municipality.
