Ing Wisdom Edem Gomashie
A mining consultant, Ing Wisdom Edem Gomashie, has publicly criticized the government’s approach to the indigenisation of Ghana’s mining sector, raising concerns about the lack of stakeholder engagement and transparency in recent policy moves.
In a strongly worded Facebook post on Saturday, July 5, Gomashie directed his message at the Jubilee House, questioning the decision to proceed with a national policy on indigenisation without first consulting key industry stakeholders.“To the Jubilee House, how can you roll out a policy on indigenisation of the mining sector without stakeholder engagement and trying to mortgage Azumah Resources to someone?” he wrote.
His comments appear to reference ongoing discussions or attempts by government actors to transfer interests in Azumah Resources, a mining company with significant exploration assets in Ghana’s Upper West Region.
Gomashie, who has long advocated for greater Ghanaian participation in the country’s mineral wealth, expressed worry that policies intended to promote local ownership could be undermined by backdoor arrangements and lack of broad consultation.
Neither the Presidency nor the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has officially responded to Gomashie’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
