The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has urged Perseus Mining to sustain its investments in local employment, skills development and community infrastructure while pursuing further exploration to extend the operational lifespan of its mine.
He made the call during a working visit to the mining company, where he commended it for its contributions to socio-economic development in its operational and host communities in the Western and Central regions.
Mr Nelson said that in its 15 years of operations, Perseus Mining had supported healthcare, education, skills development and local economic activity, while providing employment opportunities for residents.
He also welcomed discussions between the company and the government on a potential partnership to rehabilitate the Dunkwa–Ayamfuri Road, describing it as an important transport corridor whose improvement could enhance mobility, trade and economic activity.

He expressed confidence that the discussions would continue towards finding a practical and lasting solution to the road’s rehabilitation.
The minister also called for continued dialogue to address encroachment on the company’s mining concession, stressing the need for collaboration among relevant stakeholders to achieve a sustainable resolution.
Perseus Mining’s operations span the jurisdictions of Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region and Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region. Mr Nelson said the company’s responsibilities to both regions should be recognised and that communities around its operations should continue to benefit from its activities.
During the visit, he also officially opened the company’s National Service Personnel Week celebrations, acknowledging the contribution of young professionals to workplace productivity and national development.
Mr Nelson said the Western Regional Coordinating Council remained focused on improving livelihoods through development in education, healthcare, roads and other essential sectors.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to constructive engagement with the mining industry and other stakeholders to promote responsible mining, protect legitimate business interests and deliver lasting benefits to host communities.
