In a major safety milestone for Ghana’s mining industry, Mantrac Ghana, a key business partner of Newmont, has successfully recorded 3 million exposure hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) at the Ahafo South mine.
The milestone, achieved in May 2025, is a significant achievement given the high-risk nature of the work — particularly in Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) maintenance and repairs, one of the most demanding areas in mine site operations. The record demonstrates the company’s dedication to protecting both its workforce and the environment, even under pressure-intensive conditions.
Newmont, in celebrating the achievement, emphasized that the milestone is a reflection of not only Mantrac’s strong internal safety culture but also the broader shared values between the two companies.

“This accomplishment underscores our collective commitment to risk management, leadership-led safety, ongoing skills development, and the adoption of technology to enhance workplace safety,” the company said in a statement.
By prioritizing safety, Mantrac has helped maintain operational continuity while safeguarding lives — a core tenet of Newmont’s mission to create value and improve lives through responsible mining.

Newmont extended its congratulations to the entire Mantrac team, applauding their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to upholding the highest standards of health and safety.

The milestone sets a benchmark for contractors and partners across the industry and reaffirms that a zero-harm workplace is not only possible but achievable through discipline, teamwork, and a culture of accountability.
