A diesel tanker was completely destroyed by fire at Asutuare Junction in the Eastern Region in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 2026, leaving one person dead and another injured.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 4:41 a.m. and immediately dispatched four fire pumps from the Somanya, VRA, Akosombo and Gbetsile fire stations to the scene.
According to the Service, the first firefighting crew arrived at 5:30 a.m. and brought the blaze under control by 6:03 a.m. The fire was fully extinguished at 6:30 a.m., preventing it from spreading beyond the tanker.
The tanker and its diesel cargo were completely destroyed in the incident.
Firefighters discovered one person, believed to be the driver, burnt beyond recognition at the scene. The driver’s mate was rescued and rushed to Akuse Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The firefighting operation was led by Station Officer II Achisey of the Somanya Fire Station.The Ghana National Fire Service said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
