The Madina Divisional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Lagoon in Accra.
Addressing the media on Thursday, May 7, Superintendent Juliana Obeng said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on May 3, 2026, after the teenager allegedly defied repeated warnings from his father and went out to play football with friends.
Police identified the suspect as Mr. Eric Manté, who allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off. The teenager reportedly fell onto the road near Adonai Church and was dragged for several minutes, sustaining multiple injuries.
Residents who heard the victim’s screams intervened and stopped the assault before rushing him to the hospital for treatment.
According to police, the suspect admitted to the act during investigations and claimed he acted out of anger over the boy’s behaviour.
The Accra Regional Police Command condemned all forms of violence against children and urged parents and guardians to use lawful and non-violent means of discipline.
