Victor Biney
The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to be part of a gang that carried out a violent robbery attack on a mining site at Sefwi Antobia in the Western North Region.
The suspect, identified as Victor Biney, alias Abeiku, who is already on the police wanted list for multiple robbery cases, was arrested on Monday, 17th November 2025.
His arrest followed a complaint that seven armed, masked men had invaded a mining site near Sefwi Antobia, attacked miners with cutlasses, and made away with quantities of gold concentrate and several mobile phones.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicated that the assailants, armed with pump-action and single-barrel guns, stormed the location, subjected miners to severe beatings, and fled with the stolen items. Three of the attackers were reportedly dressed in distinctive smocks—one decorated with talismans—while another wore a military shirt.
A raid on the suspect’s shrine at Attakrom led to the retrieval of several items believed to be linked to the robbery. These included a military camouflage shirt, a pair of handcuffs, two cutlasses, a single-barrel gun, multiple flashlights, seventeen AAA live cartridges, several smocks, mercury, particles of gold concentrate, and a pump-action gun butt.
Police say the suspect admitted ownership of several of the seized items, while the victims identified some of the flashlights, mercury, gold concentrate, and three of the smocks as those stolen during the attack. They further confirmed that the military shirt and some of the smocks matched those worn by the attackers.
Biney was arraigned before the Juaboso District Court on 17th November 2025 and has been remanded into police custody to reappear on 8th December 2025.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices who are currently on the run, assuring that all involved will be brought to justice.
