The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor and the killing of two people at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when officers received a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery.
Police personnel responded to the scene but the perpetrators had fled before their arrival.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers targeted a mobile money vendor and made away with GH¢30,000 in cash.
During the robbery, four people at the scene sustained pellet gunshot injuries and were rushed to the Sunyani Regional Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Police said an unidentified man wearing a black mask was later found nearby with severe injuries. He was also taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.
Investigators further established that as the robbers fled the scene, they allegedly shot a resident who had stepped out of a nearby room. The victim died on arrival at the hospital.
Crime scene investigators recovered six spent BB cartridge casings, which have been retained for forensic examination.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly disembarked from a cattle truck travelling towards Berekum before carrying out the robbery.
Following the incident, officers at the Twumasikrom checkpoint were alerted to intercept two cattle trucks believed to be linked to the suspects.
Nine suspects were subsequently arrested and are assisting with investigations. Police said they will be processed for prosecution.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue pending identification, preservation and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to have participated in the attack and bring them to justice.
