Prof Jerry Kponyo
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has appointed Professor Jerry John Kponyo as Acting Director of the Office of Grants and Research (OGR).
An Associate Professor of Telecommunications Engineering, Prof Kponyo has held several leadership positions, including Dean of Quality Assurance and Planning, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Head of the Electrical Engineering Department.
He leads major initiatives such as the AI for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) project, supported by the French Embassy, and the KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP)—a $5.7 million Africa Centre of Excellence Impact project on digital development and energy.
Prof. Kponyo also co-founded the Responsible AI Network (RAIN-Africa) in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich.
With over 80 publications in artificial intelligence and intelligent systems, he is internationally recognised for promoting ethical and inclusive digital transformation.
He also serves on the International Telecommunication Union’s Academic Advisory Board on Emerging Technologies.
In his new role, Prof. Kponyo will steer KNUST’s research and innovation agenda, strengthen grant acquisition, and deepen global partnerships aligned with Ghana’s sustainable development priorities.
