The Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Sir Sam Jonah, has called on the university community to move past recent leadership challenges and unite in addressing the pressing issues facing higher education institutions today.
Speaking to faculty, staff, and students, Sir Jonah highlighted the urgent need for universities to play a proactive role in solving real-world problems.
“The challenges before us in Africa—climate change, public health, food security, governance, and digital transformation—will not be resolved by theory alone.
They require research that engages the real world, informs policies, builds enterprises, and improves lives,” he said.
According to the Chancellor, these challenges represent a defining moment for UCC to demonstrate its intellectual capital and reputation in providing tangible solutions.
He stressed that the university’s ability to make an impact would depend on fostering good leadership that prioritizes stewardship, unity, and collective progress over ego and divisiveness.
Sir Jonah’s call comes at a time when universities worldwide are grappling with complex societal issues that demand innovative thinking and practical solutions.
By emphasizing research-driven action and responsible leadership, the Chancellor urged UCC to lead by example in contributing to sustainable development and societal advancement.
