Mining consultant Ing. Wisdom Edem Gomashie has challenged the Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, to openly acknowledge and address the dual role of the newly established Gold Board (GoldBod).
According to Gomashie, the GoldBod Act clearly establishes the institution as both a regulator and a commercial player in the gold trade, a structure that raises critical concerns.
He questioned why Gyamfi appears to be avoiding direct discussions on this fundamental aspect of the law.
“You cannot deny the fact that GoldBod is both a regulator and a commercial player at the same time as per the Act passed,” Gomashie asserted. “While I do not have a problem with that, I am worried why you are running away from that fact.”
His remarks highlight growing scrutiny over how GoldBod will operate within the gold sector, ensuring fair competition while also engaging in gold trade.
Many industry experts fear that the entity’s commercial involvement could place private sector players at a disadvantage, creating a potential conflict of interest.
