Supreme court dismisses 2020 election petition

Ghana’s Supreme court has unanimously dismissed the 2020 election petition filed by the NDC Presidential candidate John Mahama .

The court believes the case has no merit hence its decision.

The verdict brings to an end day of political wrangling and uncertainty in the country.

The long-awaited verdict confirms Akufo Addo’s victory as the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate during last December’s presidential election.

Ghana’s electoral commission declared Akufo Addo the winner with 51.59 percent of valid votes cast as against John Mahama of the NDC who polled 47.36 percent.

But the opposition claimed the vote had been rigged. They alleged that election figures were inflated and in some cases there had been ballot stuffing.

In delivering his judgement the court said the petitioner failed to prove his case hence the decision to dismiss the petition.
