UENR students on a tour at Newmont
Newmont Africa has opened its doors to Level 200 Sustainable Mining students from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), offering them an immersive learning experience at the Ahafo South Mine.
The educational visit aimed to enhance the students’ academic understanding of mining through real-world exposure to Newmont’s operations and sustainability practices.
As part of the tour, the students were taken through key operational areas, including the Subika Open Pit, the Tailings Storage Facility, and Newmont’s land reclamation sites.

These visits offered firsthand insight into how large-scale mining is conducted in line with environmental, safety, and community standards. The students showed exceptional enthusiasm and curiosity, actively engaging Newmont’s technical teams with insightful questions and observations.

The interaction reflected a strong desire to link classroom theory with practical field experience—something Newmont strongly advocates for in its community and academic engagements.
“At Newmont, we recognize the importance of building strong linkages between academia and the mining industry. This visit is one of the many ways we contribute to developing future mining professionals who will drive innovation and sustainability in the sector,” the company stated.

Newmont’s commitment to supporting educational institutions continues to form part of its broader sustainability and local development agenda, as it nurtures the next generation of industry leaders through mentorship, training, and partnership.
