The University of Ghana (UG) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration in research, skills training, and capacity building to benefit students and the oil and gas industry.
This was highlighted during a high-level engagement where Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, congratulated GNPC’s Acting Chief Executive, Kwame Ntow Amoah, on his recent appointment. She emphasized the importance of impactful partnerships in advancing UG’s strategic vision for 2024-2029.
Discussions centered on key areas such as GNPC-sponsored scholarships, expanding student training and internship opportunities, sustaining the GNPC Professorial Research Chair, and enhancing professional development through customized skills training programs for GNPC staff.

Despite budget constraints, Ntow Amoah reaffirmed GNPC’s commitment to supporting the University, noting that UG’s expertise in research and strategic planning remains invaluable to the corporation’s long-term goals.
Senior UG officials, including the Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS), Prof. Sandow Mark Yidana, and Dean of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Prof. Justice Bawole, acknowledged GNPC’s contributions and appealed for further support in infrastructure development and research funding.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision for deeper collaboration, increased student opportunities, and plans to integrate GNPC’s industry expertise into academic learning.
Also in attendance were UG’s Director of Institutional Advancement, Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah, and Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, alongside key GNPC representatives including Mr. Victor Sunu-Attah (Advisor to the CEO), Eric Pwadura (Manager, Corporate Affairs), and Albert Longdon-Nyewan (Manager, Engineering).
