A fuel tanker carrying 54,000 litres of petrol has been involved in an accident at Dominasi Toboasi on the Mankessim–Assin Fosu Road, prompting swift emergency response to prevent a potential disaster.
The tanker, with registration number AS 5140-24, overturned on Thursday, January 15, 2026, triggering concerns over fire and environmental risks due to the highly flammable cargo.
Firefighters from the Mankessim Fire Station, led by Station Officer I Isaac Yamoah, arrived promptly at the scene after receiving a distress call at 10:45 hours.
The crew immediately secured the area and began intermittent cooling of the tanker to control its temperature and reduce the risk of ignition.
To facilitate safe operations, a water tanker from the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly and another fuel tanker were deployed to support the safe transfer of petrol from the overturned vehicle.
Despite attempts by some members of the surrounding community to siphon fuel, firefighters, with the support of the police, maintained strict control of the scene to safeguard lives and property.
The fuel transfer operation was successfully completed, and towing services are currently underway under police supervision to remove the damaged tanker and restore traffic flow along the busy highway.
