Wontumi
The Founder of Akonta Mining , Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been granted bail after appearing before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
He was released on GHC1 million bail with two sureties, which he has met successfully.
Wontumi was questioned on Monday, October 6, 2025, over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities. He is expected to face three mining-related charges when he appears before the High Court in Accra on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
His appearance followed an ultimatum from Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who warned last Friday that Wontumi would be arrested if he failed to report to the police.
Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, told journalists his client is cooperating fully with investigators but cautioned against any attempt to revoke his earlier police enquiry bail, describing such a move as one that would be “vigorously resisted.”
