The highly anticipated 18th edition of the West African Mining and Power Exhibition and Conference (WAMPEX) begins tomorrow at the Accra International Conference Centre and Grand Arena, bringing together leading voices in mining, energy, sustainability, and investment from across the region and beyond.
Running from 28th to 30th May 2025, WAMPEX 2025 promises to be a transformative platform for dialogue, innovation, and strategic partnerships in West Africa’s critical extractive sectors. This year’s event features a stellar lineup of distinguished speakers, reflecting the growing importance of inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking approaches to mining and power development.
Among the headline speakers is Charlotte Fafa Tay Senyo, Director of Sustainability Projects at Newmont Ghana Gold Limited. Known for her work in embedding sustainability into mining operations, Senyo’s presence signals a strong focus on environmental stewardship, community development, and corporate responsibility at this year’s gathering.
Another key speaker is Justina Nelson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF). Nelson is expected to share insights on Ghana’s evolving strategy to maximize mineral revenues and boost Ghanaian equity participation in mining assets—a topic of growing relevance as African nations seek greater control over their natural resource wealth.
Also featured on the programme is Mr. Abdel Razak Yakubu, Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, who will speak to the growing role of foundations and development arms in driving inclusive growth in mining communities.
The leadership of the Ghana Chamber of Mines will also be strongly represented, with Mr. Ahmed Nantogmah, Acting Chief Executive Officer, expected to address policy alignment and industry challenges. Ing. Fred Attakumah, Executive Vice President & Country Director of Asante Gold Corporation, and First Vice President of the Chamber, will contribute his perspective on local content, innovation, and operational excellence.
Completing the Chamber’s representation is Mr. Michael Akafia, Vice President, External Affairs of Gold Fields Ghana and current President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines. His remarks are anticipated to highlight the role of industry advocacy in shaping the regulatory environment and promoting responsible mining.
With over 200 exhibitors and thousands of attendees expected, WAMPEX 2025 will serve as a hub for business-to-business networking, investment pitches, and policy discussions. The event’s theme—”Exploring Transformative Opportunities in West Africa’s Mining and Power Sectors”—underscores a collective ambition to unlock the region’s full economic potential.
Participants can expect three days of insightful panel discussions, technical workshops, and high-level engagements—all geared toward reshaping the future of mining and energy in West Africa.
Registration is still open at wampexwestafrica.com, and organisers are urging stakeholders across government, industry, civil society, and academia to attend and contribute to the movement redefining resource governance and energy innovation in the region.
As WAMPEX 2025 prepares to open its doors, all eyes are on Accra—where the future of West Africa’s mineral and power sectors is being reimagined.
