18-year-old Esther Osei Yeboah, who for many years of her young life, assisted her mother, Patricia Gyasiwah, in selling pepper at the Agbogbloshie Market, has, in an inspiring tale of resilience and academic prowess, triumphed over adversity.
The arduous journey of Esther caught the attention of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), whose magnanimity, channeled through the GNPC Foundation, has handed full educational scholarship to the distinguished alumna of Aburi Girls SHS who obtained a remarkable record of scoring 8As in the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE); paving the way for her to pursue a medical degree at the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) – A dream that faced a formidable financial hurdle.
During a heartfelt visit to their modest stall at Agbogbloshie, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, conveyed the jubilant news to Esther and her mother on behalf of GNPC’s CEO, Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah. Eduah reaffirmed GNPC’s unwavering commitment to recognizing and supporting the academic journeys of Ghanaian youth, especially those who surmount extraordinary obstacles to realize their ambitions.
Visibly elated, Esther and her mother, almost moved to tears, expressed profound gratitude to GNPC for its timely response to their plea for assistance.
This benevolent scholarship has not only alleviated their financial constraints but has also reignited the flickering flame of Esther’s dream to become a medical doctor.
As the firstborn among four siblings, Esther, now armed with this life-changing opportunity, pledged not to falter in her pursuit of excellence. She promises to meet the expectations set by herself and those who believe in her journey, aspiring to become a beacon of inspiration for others facing similar challenges.
GNPC’s gesture has not only restored Esther’s aspirations but has also sown the seeds of hope for countless others looking to overcome adversity and achieve their dreams.
