Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Thursday, September 18, inspected the Ankobra River to assess its current state following recent anti-illegal mining interventions.
The visit comes on the back of a series of coordinated operations led by the Western Regional Security Council, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), and the Blue Water Guards in the Nzema East Municipal area.
These joint efforts are part of government’s broader strategy to curb illegal mining activities and restore Ghana’s vital water bodies to their natural state.

The Ankobra River, which has long suffered from pollution caused by galamsey activities, remains a critical source of water and livelihood for surrounding communities.

Buah commended the agencies for their collaborative work and reiterated government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illegal mining to safeguard the environment and protect future generations.
