The Ghana Police Service has dismantled a major armed robbery syndicate that had been targeting rural banks across five regions.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno announced the operation at a press briefing in Accra, calling it a “major breakthrough” in the fight against organised crime.
Ten suspects were arrested and three others killed in a gun battle during coordinated raids across Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions. Police recovered 14 weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones.
A manhunt is ongoing for other gang members.
IGP Yohuno praised the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, his team, and members of the public for critical support, vowing that the Service “will pursue criminals until they are brought to justice.”
