The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will undertake two rounds of a nationwide school-based vaccination campaign against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in October and November/December 2026 to protect eligible girls against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The exercise, being conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) and other partners, will target girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received the HPV vaccine.
According to a GHS press release dated October 19, 2026, the first round is scheduled for October 19 to 23, while the second round will take place from November 30 to December 4.
Health workers will visit schools nationwide to administer the vaccine to eligible girls who have not previously received it.
The Ghana Health Service said the exercise forms part of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI) and is intended to raise awareness of the routine HPV vaccine, improve uptake and strengthen protection against diseases associated with HPV infection.
The Service has urged school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers and community leaders to cooperate with health teams to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
The initiative is part of efforts by the Ghana Health Service to strengthen routine immunisation and protect the health and well-being of children across the country.
The press release was signed by Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service.
