A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Adabraka, Accra, to mark the first anniversary of the death of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
According to an announcement by the family, the service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to end by midday. Attendees have been asked to wear white or black and white.
Nana Konadu, who died on October 23, 2025, was the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement and a prominent advocate for women’s empowerment, children’s rights and grassroots development.
She served as First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and played a significant role in encouraging women’s participation in community development and politics.
Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, she helped establish more than 1,000 early childhood development centres across Ghana, with support from donor organisations, international partners and local communities.
The centres were established to expand access to pre-school education, particularly for children in rural and underserved communities.
Nana Konadu was also a key figure in the formation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She was elected vice-chairperson of the party in 2010 and contested its presidential primaries in 2011.
In 2012, she founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) and contested the 2016 presidential election as its candidate.
Her advocacy also extended to international platforms, including the 1995 United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. She was involved in initiatives concerning women’s rights, child welfare and regional cooperation.
The family has invited members of the public to join in remembering her contributions to Ghana, particularly her work on women’s empowerment, children’s welfare and community development.
It said her legacy would continue to inspire women and children in Ghana and beyond.
