The Minerals Commission has commended Perseus Mining Ghana Limited for its commitment to responsible mining and sustainable development in its host communities.
The commendation followed the company’s presentation of a $600,000 community development investment to support its host communities.
The Minerals Commission, represented by its Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, said the initiative demonstrated that responsible mining extends beyond mineral production to include investments in education, employment, community infrastructure and local economic development.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh, Ms Mawuenyefia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s mineral resources translate into tangible socio-economic benefits for mining communities.
She said this would be pursued through stronger local content measures, inclusive mining policies and increased participation of host communities in mining-related development.

The Commission also highlighted ongoing reforms, including the introduction of mandatory Community Development Agreements, as part of efforts to promote equitable benefit-sharing and responsible mineral resource governance.
It encouraged Perseus Mining to further deepen its engagement with host communities and strengthen partnerships aimed at supporting long-term sustainable development.

The Commission also called on traditional authorities and community members to maintain peaceful collaboration with mining companies.
According to the Commission, stronger partnerships among government, mining companies and communities are essential to addressing illegal mining, protecting the environment and building a resilient mining sector that delivers lasting benefits to Ghanaians.
