New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has engaged the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM) as part of consultations on challenges and reforms in Ghana’s extractive sector.
Dr Bawumia, together with members of the NPP’s Identifiable Groups Committee on the Extractive Sector, held discussions with representatives of the small-scale mining sector.
According to Dr Bawumia, the engagement focused on the challenges facing small-scale mining and practical reforms to promote responsible mining, protect the environment, create jobs and strengthen local value addition.
He said the engagement formed part of ongoing consultations with key stakeholders and expressed his commitment to continued collaboration towards building a sustainable and productive extractive sector.
Dr Bawumia did not disclose specific reforms discussed or any timelines for their implementation.
